We think of time as one of the world’s few constants. But that’s not the case.
One hour to most humans is easily understood.
But to a mayfly which has a lifespan of about 1 day, an hour is a meaningful chunk of their lives (equivalent to over 3 human years). That same hour could very well feel the same to that mayfly as what three years feels like for us.
Or to a human being who’s suffering from a neurological condition, a year could feel like ten. Or ten could feel like one.
To take it further, what if one minute on our world is equal to a thousand years in another.
It’s completely relative.
When we talk about time, we refer to our perception of time.
Sitting with this has no practical impact on our lives. But it helps open our minds to the worlds of possibility, and ultimately it reminds us of our insignificance. If our entire existence is just a minute somewhere else, that’s pretty humbling.
If you want to read further, here’s a great article about this phenomenon applied to space/size instead of time.
Everything in life is relative, depending on each one’s circumstances! And more than anything, time.. waiting for your next daily!
Interesting perspective.!
