“When the well is dry, we know the worth of water.” I walked by this Ben Franklin quote every day during undergrad.
Last week’s SVB crisis reminded me of the quote and the gratitude that I have for more normal days.
So often we expect basic things to just work — good health, relationships, public security, and, yes, our banks too.
We take them for granted.
But only when we lose those basic foundational blocks do we realize how valuable they were to us.
It makes the problems we normally deal with — an argument with a parent, an hour less of sleep, a missed deadline — feel so much more trivial.
And perhaps there’s a lesson there for us.
A normal day is actually a fantastic day. It means the most important things are just working without us even realizing.
Yash i am a firm believer in what you wrote. We make trivial arguments/ disappointments larger than life. A normal day, good health, travel, our loved ones being well, a house to stay in.. we would be in a better space than 95% of the world! Only if our attitude changes...
So thoughtful and sensitive 🥰
